Installed in the Market Square Pavilion, the five-panel artwork depicting the carousel at Riverside Park by Guelph artist Marlene Jofriet was a gift to the city from Balnar Management Ltd., a local property management firm.
The panels were originally painted in 1990 and sold into a private collection, where they remained for a quarter of a century. In 2015, the panels made their way back to Gail Barber, who had originally sold them.
According to a news release from the city, Barber had the idea of displaying the panels in downtown Guelph. Following approvals from the city’s public art advisory committee, the panels were donated.
